A Leader in Education Equity for the African-American Community

Wonderland is the oldest continuously operated, African American-founded school in Houston. Every day since its opening in 1966, Wonderland has helped students overcome adversity to achieve greatness. Wonderland Inc. operates both the Wonderland Private School, providing a comprehensive education to children ages 18 months to four years, and the Beatrice Mayes Institute, a K-8 charter school preparing its students to succeed in high school, college and beyond. We work relentlessly for our students to achieve their professional and personal goals and to help create a better world as engaged citizens and community influencers.

“There is no secret to educational success. There is no magic potion. I credit my daughter’s success to the educational foundation she received at Beatrice Mayes Institute Charter School. My daughter was prepared by her teachers to accomplish her academic, personal and professional goals. They equipped her with the skill set not only to be successful in the classroom but also in the world.”
